HOKITIKA NOTES
(Our Own Correspondent). HOKITIKA, Sept. 30. The weather conditions at Hokitika still continue to be very rough and wintry. Last night was stormy and rough, with a wind from the south-west at hurricane force, accompanied by heavy showers of hail and rain. Snow fell in the ranges around Lake Kanieri and Kokatahi, and all the low-lying hills received a heavy coating. The snow is very low, especially around the shores of Lake Kanieri and the foothills of Kokatahi and Koiterangi. Reports state that snow fell at Harihari this morning from 9 o’clock onwards, the fall being fairly heavy. Lambs w’ould suf- ( fer from the extreme cold temperatures prevailing and the wintry conditions. From Hokitika, the snow can be seen low down on the nearby hills, while the mountain range is heavily coated.
The sea along the coast is very heavy and is breaking for miles offshore. The river remains in a semiflooded state. 4 Conditions for all outdoor work is most unpleasant. REVUE SOCIETY
