HARLEY’S CHILDREN’S CLUB CORNER Dear Children, Well, I suppose that you are all back at school again after your holidays. I hope you enjoyed yourselves. I know when I was at school I just loved having holidays, but it is fun. going back on the first day isn’t it, because there is always such a lot to tell your friends about, all the exciting things you have been doing. Now that you are at school, I hope you are telling your playmates about Harley’s Children’s Club, because they may have been away for a few days and not seen my first letter, and we want to get as many members as possible. I think it is time .that we started our competitions, don’t you, boys and girls, so if . you look in the Competition Corner you will find one for boys and girls nine years of age and over, and one for boys and girls eight years old and under. For every correct entry I will give five marks; if it is nearly right three marks; and if I can see you have tried very hard but not got it right, I will give one mark. When you have a, total of 100 marks you will receive a prize. Please remember that neatness will count in your competition entries, so see how nicely you can do them, boys and girls. You will gain extra marks if you send in any good competitions, jokes, riddles, poems, drawings and stories. They may be copied, but I will give more marks for those which you, make up yourself, because I think it is more fun making up your own, don’t you ? When you send in these, please write them on a separate sheet of paper from your letter, and don’t forget to put your name neatly on the back, otherwise. I won’t know whose they are. If you send in drawings, they must be done in Indian ink. I hope you are all remembering to do your good deeds for Mother and Father each day, because our motto is “Do a Good Deed Each Day,” and to be good members you must live up to your motto. I am sure you are all trying very hard.; I have received such a lot of entries for the Competition for the name of the Club, and they are all so good, that it will take quite a long time to decide which one is the best. Some 1 of you have not sent in a name yet, so hurry up before the Competition closes, and. then watch the paper next Saturday, when I will announce the winner. So. cheerio till next week, boys and girls.
