REEFTON, Sept. 17.
In spite of steady rain the street stall held on Friday and organised by the Reefton Women’s Institute and ladies’ bowling and croquet clubs, was fairly well patronised. The complete takings, including donations received, amounted to £64 4s sd. The Community Centre Committee thank all who helped to make this function a success, also residents of Reefton, Mawheraiti, Mai Mai, Ikamatua, C'ronadun, Rotokohu and Inangahua Junction for their generous response to this appeal. Winners of the compettions were as follows: Box of sweets, Miss Edna Coghlan; box of chocolates, Christine Hobbs; cushion, Mrs Millar senr.; duchess set, Mrs T. Kearns; cake, Mrs Belcher. WAITAHU LADIES’ GOLF CLUB The qualifying rounds were held on Saturday for club championships. The scores were disappointing, but it was gratifying to see so many members return cards. Mrs Crossman returned the best gross score, S4/15/97, and Mrs Eklund returned the best nett score, 98/22/76. In the intermediate section, Mrs Reichenbach returned the best gross score, 177/36/81; and Mrs Marshall returned the best nett score, 119/40/79. The best cards returns for the day were: Mrs Crossman 94/15/79, Miss King 95/16/79, Mrs Eklund 98/22/76, and Mrs Sharpe 99/21/78. To-day the first round of the championships and senior and junior flights will be played. The draw is: Mrs Crossman v. Mrs Duff, Mrs Yellowlees v. Mrs Sharpe, Miss O’Grady v. Mrs Eklund, Mrs Strachan v. Miss King. Senior flight on handicap: Mrs A. Archer (28) v. Mrs Lyng (30), Mrs Malcolm (26) v. Mrs Patterson . (34), Mrs Lockington (24) v. Miss J. Williams (36). Mrs Dobso n(34) v. Mrs August (36). Intermediate championship (first round): Mrs Richardson a bye, Mrs Mashall v. Miss J. Archer, Mrs McLennan v. Mrs Bisset, Mrs Blackmore v. Miss Ross.
Junioi’ flight: Mrs Robertson v. Mrs Lulham. Mrs Heaphy v. Mrs McDonald. Miss O’Flaherty v. Mrs Cutbush. Mrs Panckhurst v. Mrs Sharpe junr. As a special request from the general match committee, the ladies are asked to play all matches on Saturday in fours.
The following teams have been selected to represent the club in the inter-club match with Ikamatua and the Totara Flat. Clubs for the Blackwater Mines Shield to-day: A team, C. M. Harris, W. J. August, W G. Porter and W- J. Humphries; B team; J. Weir. W. Bissett, J. W. Osborne and A. Robertson.
