THE TURF BIG EVENT AT ASHBURTON MAY GO TO BANSHEE
Magical Stakes Fancy Banshee ran well enough at the Riccarton meeting to suggest she was on the verge of winning form. The field in the Ashburton Handicap, apart from top weight, Lord Elgin, is not a strong one, and with her light impost she should take a hand in the finish. Lord Elgin and Magnaform which will be bracketed on the totalisator, have both raced well enough of late to suggest they may be in the money, while Shenandoah, on Westport running, is entitled to consideration. Track conditions promise to be excellent for the Ashburton Club’s meeting today, and under the win and place system of betting the following horses may come in for support.

Mr. Alan V. Dunn, secretary of the Trotting Control Board of Victoria, said that trotting had completely gripped the imagination of the sporting public in Melbourne last season and this was an added reason why Melbourne should have the carnival. For the four-night carnival at Wayville. South Australia, next year, the South Australian Trotting Club will distribute £21,000 in stakes, including £8,500 for the grand final.
