When his hand came in contact with a circular saw, at his sawmill at Westbrook, Kumara. on Wednesday, Mr l_eslie W. Stanton. 35, married, of Hacker's Quay, Biaketown, lost the little finger oi his right hand. He was admitted to the Greymouth hospital where his condition is reported to be satisfactory.

A proposal, that a planetarium be established in Wellington as a World War 11 memorial has been made by the council of the Royal Astronomical Society of New Zealand. It would be a building with a hemispherical ceiling, on which are thrown from an intricate multilens projector the stars, sun, moon, planets, comets eclipses and other heavenly phenomena. There are 30 in U.S.A, and a number in European countries but none in British countries.

The interior o the Greymouth Tennis Club's pavilion in the 'town Belt, which has not been in general use during the winter, has bee'n extensively damaged by vandals. Entry was gained through a window that was broken by a stone. The partition between the main room and the men’s dressing room was knocked down and walls damaged by writing. The work is thought to be that of boys.
When the wall of a house collapsed in Dobson yesterday morning, Mr John Drake, 80, retired builder, of Alexander Street, Greymouth, was trapped beneath the debris for an hour and a half. He managed to force his arm through some timber, and it was seen by Mr P. O’Donnell about 11.50 a.m. Mr O’Donnell found Mr Drake on his back, pinned to the floor by the remains of the wall. The house was being demolished at the time. Mr Drake, who was suffering from leg and back injuries was taken to the Greymouth hospital, where his condition is reported to be satisfactory.

A total of 4268 books were issued by the Greymouth Library during August; These included fiction, nonfiction, junior and Country Library and inter-library loans. There were 75 additions to stock. Receipts totalled £l2 7s.

Australia will now be supplying more fruit, vegetables and seeds to the Dominion. A Canberra cable states that embargoes on the export of rye and subterranean clover seeds, of perennial rye grass seed, and of fruit and vegetables to New Zealand have been removed by special regulations gazetted yesterday.
The Otahuhu Rugby League Club’s junior and fourth grade team arrived yesterday in Greymouth. To-morrow they play a .West Coast fourth grade representative team at Victoria Park and on Sunday a third grade representative team at Wingham Park. The manager of the team is Mr O. Patello, while Mr" Lee-Johnson, photographer, of Otahuhu accompanies the team.
The percentage .of mark-ups allowed by the Price Tribunal according to a statement made last month on hardware, crockery and are set out in a price order published in last night’s Gazette. The order covers a wide range of articles, including builders’ hardware, tools and engineering requisites, as well as crockery and glassware.
