P.A. CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 15. Beef was easier, but sheep and pigs were up at the sale at Addington today. Store sheep: The entry was 2113, comprising 1472 hoggets, 374 ewes and lambs, 153 ewes, and 114 wethers. Hoggets of fair quality, shorn and secondary, were Is 6d to 2s a head cheaper . than last week. . For best woolly sorts there was little difference in price. Best ewe hoggets -in wool made to 475; medium 33s 6d to 365... Medium shorn made 28s to 30s; best woolly hoggets made' 43s 6d to 455, best shorn 30s 9d to 36s 6d, and medium shorn 23s 3d to 30s; An outstanding line of half-bred two-tooth ewes, in lamb to Down rams, made 60s. A line of three-quarter-breds, also in lamb to' Down rams, sold at 50s. Old Merinos made l’4s and 15s 6d. Several useful lines of ewes-and-lambs went forward. Demand was steady at last week’s prices. Top price was 34s for a pen of young halfbreds with good lambs. The best made 28s to 345, and ordinary 22s to 25s 6d. Medium wethers sold at 395. Spring lamb: The yarding was .31. the quality being excellent. Demand was keen at prices about 6s better. Values were: Best spring lambs to 64s Id, good 55s to 595, medium 48s to 535. , Fat hoggets: The’- entry was 502 head. There was a good selection of choice hoggets, and also a “tail” of plain sorts. Good sorts met keen inquiry at prices 2s better than last week. The others were unchanged. Values were: Woolly hoggets: Extra prime to 73s Id, prime 52s to 58s, good 45s to 50s, medium 37s to 435. light 30s to 355; shorn: extra prime to 68s Id, prime 48s to 545, good 42s to 465, medium 35s to 40s, light 29s to 345. Fat sheep: The entry was 2500 head. The quality was gdod. The sale opened steadily at last week’s prices, but it soon became apparent that, with a succession of short yardings, the supply was insufficient for the demand, and heavier sorts rose by 3s to 5s and others by 2s. Shorn sheep again met a keener demand than the sheep in wool. Values (for sheep shorn unless otherwise stated) were: Woolly wethers to 85s Id, extra prime heavy wethers to 80s Id, prime heavy 65s to 735, prime mediumweight 58s to 645. ordinary 50s to 565, light and unfinished 42s to 48s; woolly ewes to 70s Id, prime heavy ewes to 675, prime 45s to 51s, Fat cattle: The entry was 597 head. The quality was good. Steers and heifers met a more restricted inquiry. Cows held firm on last week’s prices. Best beef made to 75s per 100 lb, good 55s to 60s, medium 47s 6d to 53s 6d; best cow beef to 57s 6d, secondary to 455. Values were: Extra prime’ heavy steers to £35 12s 6d, prime heavy £25 to £2B, prime medium weight £2l to £25, ordinary and light £l6 to £l9 10s; extra prime heifers to £25 2s 6d, prime £l6 to 1 £2O, ordinary and light £l2 to £l5; extra prime cows to £23 17s 6d, prime £l4 to £lB, ordinary and light £8 to £l2. Pigs: The porker entry was the largest for several weeks. Values were easier by 2s to 3s a head for light-weights and 4s to 5s for heavier sorts. The sale was sound. Choppers were forward in medium numbers, and showed no change. Baconers were forward in bigger numbers, and the sale was a shade easier. Values were: Light porkers £3 15s 6d to £4 4s 6d, medium £4 7s 6d to £4 17s 6d, heavy £5 Is 6d to £6 0s 6d; choppers, £7 Is to £l2 Is; light baconers £5 19s 6d to £6 14s 6d, medium £6 17s Gd to £7 2s 6d, heavy £7 3s 6d to £7 17s 6d. The average price per lb was lOd to 10 Id.
