RUNANGA BOROUGH COUNCIL AND ROYAL VISIT
■ The suggestion that Runanga, should- contribute £lOO towards the cost of the celebrations for the Royal visit, was not altogether favoured by the Borough Council at its meeting •m Tuesday. Cr S. Braithwaite had. reported on the results of the meeting held, in Greymouth to discuss the Royal visit, and said it had been suggested that Runanga council contribute £lOO. " The Mayor, Mr G. E._ English, while he welcomed the visit of the Royal Family, said he did not think the council would be justified in contributing £lOO without the approval of the ratepayers. It was decided to call a meeting of ratepayers to consider the matter. It was decided to, grant an appli-. lion for a building, although it is partly completed. The builder is to be warned that if he commits a further breach he will be prosecuted. The Town Clerk’s salary was increased to £350 per annum as from October, 1947. A total of 32 feet of concrete pipes had been laid in Inverness Street, leaving about eight chains, reported the foreman. . The Mayor said that despite warnings persons were still riding bicycles on the footpaths It was decided to warn residents against the habit of dumping refuse indiscriminately in the borough. Approval w’ac granted for the supply of water to the children’s park at Dunollie. „ , A lease of Section 22'4, Block 3 to G. M. Hinks and O. J. Smith, for one year with the right of renewal was granted. The council is to receive a royalty on all timber cut. It was decided to make representations to Mr J. B. Kent, M.P., regarding the conditions of railway crossings in the borough. Until the arrival of fittings two additional street lamps could not be installed, according to the Grey Electric Power Board. A scheme to number houses was agreed Upon The council granted the following applications: B. Gallagher for a 21year lease of section 9, block 6 (Dunollie) ; H. Pattinson. for a 21-year lease of section 10, block 6 (Dunollie); J. C. Smith for a renewal of his 21-year lease of section 7, block 35. It was decided to support the Westland Progress League in its efforts to secure a resident magistrate on the Wiest Coast. Buildings permits valued at £1750 were granted.
