Wholesale Price Control as Well as Retail Asked by Butchers
Resolution of West Coast Association j A demand for the suspension of. the pi'ice control of meat was last night made at a meeting, attended by forty members, of the Westland Master Butchers’ Association, those present including representatives of the trade from places as far apart as Ross and Mokihinui. The following resolution was passed:— “That this meeting of the Westland Master Butchers, representing almost 100 per cent, of the Westland, Reefton, and Buller master butchers, demands that the price control of meat be lifted for a period of four months, and that, in the meantime, negotiations be opened for a proper schedule of prices, both wholesale and retail, as more satisfactory to the master butchers. Furthermore, unless this method is approved on or before October 1 next, this Association, representing 100 per cent, of the. West Coast master butchers, will reluctantly be compelled to cease operations as from October 1 next, as it is impossible to carry on unless the present position is rectified”.
