LEAGUE FOOTBALL LEAGUE SECRETARY TENDERS RESIGNATION
Discussion In Committee Despite a certain amount of opposition, the executive of the West Coast Rugby League, last night agreed to take m committee, the resignation of the secretary (Mr T. F. McKenzie). Tendering his resignation, Mr McKenzie said he did so with regret, and expressed his thanks to the Board of Control School Board of Control and club secretaries for assistance in the past. He extended his good wishes for the future success of the code. The chairman (Mr B. Connors') said they had an idea that this matter was comins before the meeting. At this stage there was a move to have the matter taken in committee. Mr Connors sugegsted that general business be taken first. He. personally. thought it would ,be wise to go into committee on the question of Mr McKenzie’s resignation. He said this because he considered it would he in the interests of the game. Mr J. J. Haddock said that as the matter had been aired in the press and created a good deal of nublic. interest some censored statement should be given to the press, if the matter was taken in committee. He moved on those lines. Mr J. Mulcare said it was a personal matter, and he understood that Mr McKenzie desired the matter to be taken in open meeting. If that was his preference, it should be done. Mr J.‘ Walker: It is not a personal matter. It affects the whole of the League code The motion was agreed to.
The discussion taken in committee lasted over an hour and it was decided that Mr McKenzie carry on in the meantime to which he agreed. The matter will be discussed by the Board of Control and Referees’ Association at the final meeting of the latter on September 25.
LEAGUE BOARD OF CONTROL MEETING
The Board of Control of the West Coast Rugby League met last night, Mr B. F. Connors presiding. The Marist Club was granted permission for the senior- game for the Stuart Harrison Cup, to be played on Victoria Park, on September 11. Marist were also granted premission to play St Joseph's third grade for the Rathbun Cup at Victoria Park on September 18 as a curtain-raiser. T'he-Hornpy fourth grade team was granted premission to play a game on Saturday, September 25, if possible, and if accommodation was not available. a match on September 26. Advice on a style for a grandstand was sought bv Northland Rugby League Club. The secretary was instructed to forward the necessary information. The Blackball Domain Board wrote thanking the Board of Control for the gate money, £25 3s- sd, donated after the Runanga v. Blackball game. The money would be used in improvements to the Domain. FIXTURES Fixtures for Sunday, with refere’es to be appointed are:— Senior (Thacker Shield): Runanga v. Christchurch, at Wingham Park. 2.45. Senior Reserve: Runanga v. Marist, at Wingham Park, 2.45; Blackball v. Linwood, at Blackball, 2.45; Cobden v. Lake Brunner, at Te Kinga, 2.45. Third grade final: Marist v. Brunner, Wingham Park, No. 1, 1.15. Fourth grade final: Kohinoor v. Marist, Wingham Park, No. 2, 1.15, ,(W. Moore). Fifth Grade: Kohinoor v. Blackball, Cobden, 2.30 (A. Kelly).
