Karoro Domain Improvements
Voluntary work by members of the Karoro Domain Board had enabled many improvements to be made during the year, stated the chairman. Mr E. Jones in his annual report. Mr Jones pointed out that the work had been done by only a small percentage of the residents of Karoro, and he expressed the hope that by the end of the ensuing year the number of helpers would have increased and the work thus made easier. “Through the action of the board, a road has been formed from Kowhai Street to the entrance of the domain, and Watson’s Creek, previously a series of water holes, has been straightened and re-directed so that it now runs entirely outside the boundary of the domain”, he said. The northern end of the domain had been levelled, stated the report, making provision for two tennis courts, a bowling green and children’s swings. The tennis and bowling clubs had applied for land, and this had been granted under certain conditions, while the board had also lodged an application for an area of land. “The board has also applied for a grant from the Lands and Survey Department and is hopeful of receiving this soon”, Mr Jones continued. “Generally I feel that the operations of the board are very satisfactory”.
