Marist Jubilee Sports Picnic

The M. 8.0.8. League Club’s Jubilee Committee held a Jubilee Picnic at Mitchells on Sunday, that was very successful, being attended by 300 old-timers, ladies, players and supporters. Refreshment was provided en route by Mr Paddy Evans, a Wellington ’ sportsman, and an old boy of Greymouth. Many events were held and prizes were presented by Mrs Bradshaw, a stalwart of the club over many years. Results were as follows:— Old-timers’ race. —Mauriee Buckley I, Tom O'Connor 2. Young-timers’ race.—F. Duffy 1, Carmondy 2. Clergy race.—Father A. Kennedy, S.M., and Brother Victor dead' heat 1 (photo finish). Ladies race.—Mrs J. DevonDort 1, Miss M. Henderson 2. Seniors race.—B. Rochford 1, L. Dargan 2. Senior reserve. —A. Knapp 1 and J. Guy 2. Old Timers P. McEnaney 1, J. Haddock 2. Two scratch match, races were also held. In the first, T. O’Connor beat T. Ryall and P. Carmody beat P. Duffy in the second. Yesterday, the lower grade teams and Marist and Convent School children numbering over 500 were the guests of the Jubilee Committee at a special matinee at the Opera House.
