U.N.O. NOT LOOPHOLE FOR SUBVERSIVE MIGRANTS
WASHINGTON, Sept 1. The investigating committee appointed by the United States Secretary of State (General Marshall) reported to-day that it had found no basis for the charges that hundreds of subversive aliens had entered the United States under United Nations credentials. The report, which 'was sharply critical of the three visa officers of the State Department who made the charges to the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee in July, said: “Your committee is shocked by the manner in which these serious charges were made.” The committee expressed surprise that these subordinate officials of the department went to the length of testifying on a matter of high policy at a public Congressional hearing and said: “The testimony produced serious repercussions on ' the foreign policy of the United States and that testimony was irresponsible in its lack of factual support.” The committee said it believed that the protective provisions of the law under which Congress had invited the United Nations to set up its headquarters in the United States were adequate to safeguard American security.
