BLACKBALL NOTES
[■Our own Correspondent] BLACKBALL, Sept 6. . Mr A. C’Donnell, of Roa, has left for Auckland on an extended holiday. Miss Robin E. Keown of Runanga, is spending the term holidays as the guest of her grand-mother, Mrs E. Buchanan, Stafford Street. Mr Cardy Williams, of the teaching staff of the Ohakune State School, who has been spending the term holidays with his parents here, Mr and Mrs C. Williams, Hilton Street, has left on his return. Mr Rex Thompson, of the staff of the Ngahere Dredge is an inmate of the Grey River Hospital, undergoing treatment. An interesting visitor during the week was Mr Gladstone Hill, of Plima.eiton and Wellington. Mr Hill has been visiting other’ centers on the West Coast, to arrange an itinerary for ,a concert tour by the Wellington Boys’ Institute Band, of the Coast during January of next year. Mr Hill has a long and honourable connection with band work and the Coast can confidently look forward to a splendid treat during the forthcoming tour. Mrs E. Bassett, Hart Street, left on Saturday on a short holiday visit to Auckland. . „ . , Mr W Brown, Main Road, has returned from a holiday spent at Timaru, much improved in general Mr and Mrs Roy Williams, of Riccarton, are visiting the township owing to illness in the family. Miss June Aylward, who has been paying a short visit to her parents, Dr. and Mrs Alyward, has left on return to Dunedin. ' Mrs R. Donaldson, of Ross has been visiting her sister, Mrs B. J. Williams Hart Street. , . 4 The Mines Department has introduced some double unit hutments (military) into the township and erected " them, conveniently to the mine. They will serve a very useful purpose until such times as building timber is more plentiful. Building operations are to commence almost immediately on three residences for mine officials on the north side of Harper Street. Just as soon as these are completed a start will probably be made bn the proposed hostel' accommodation for the single workers in the local State mine.. , , The Domain Board met on Sunday under the chairmanship of Mr R. Mountford. There was a fair turnout of members. The forthcoming bazaar, in aid of the board’s amenities fund, naturally came in for quite a bit of review. The chairman stated tnat a meeting of the special committee set up to conduct this bazaar, would meet next Monday, September 10, and asked as many of the board s members as possible to attend. A. letter is to be sent to the League Centre, thanking them for donating the whole proceeds of the gate, Runanga v. Blackball match, to the board. It was reported that the leaflets in connection with the bazaar be distributed this week.. This being all the business, the meeting closed.
