Sawmill Firm Fined £10

The sawmill firm of Ogilvie and Co, of Gladstone Siding, pleaded guilty before Mr A. A. McLachlan, S.M.. in Greymouth Police- Court yesterdaj’, to a charge of having tresoassed on Crown land at. Gladstone. Mr F. A. Kitchingham, for . the Crown, said that the company, through some muddle, had begun cutting timber without the necessary permission, and had not paid the required royalties. The amount of timber cut was represented by the sum of £294 7s Gd. Mr W. D. Taylor, for the company, said that the firm was a reputable one, and was not in the habit of acting as pirates. He submitted that as this was not a deliberate act. a fine would meet the case. The company was fined £lO, with £2 2s costs.
