Too Much Top Hamper?
During a meeting of workers at the British Overseas Airways’ factory at Croydon, called to protest against the decision of the 8.0.A.C. to transfer its maintenance work to Holland, it was alleged that the factory was overburdened by managers foremen, and other officials, who were serving no useful purpose. One sneaker alleged that the overhead costs at Croydon had increased by 234 per cent, since the end of the W "We see officials bustling about everywhere, but we cannot get any of the things we need.” he said. In one shop in this factory there are 17 supervisors looking after 11 productive workers. Out of 1053 people engaged here, only 551 are actually engaged on production.” The meeting endorsed the resolutions carried at Birmingham calling upon the Government to use only British aeroplanes in its civil aviation services, and to set up a committee to investigate the condition of the British civil aviation industry. 8.0.A.C. officials had nb comment to make upon the allegations ol redundancy made at the meeting.
