CANBERRA, Sept 3. “I do not believe that the Russians want war,” said the Prime Minister, Mr Chifley, in the. House of Representatives, “but I do believe that Russia, to gain advantage—economic, territorial or for the extension of the Communist ideology—is prepared to push her policy as far as- she can without causing war.” He added that the countries of Europe could not stand any more wars. Britain could not either however brave and self-sacrificing her people were. The greatest concessions to Russia were made by Mi' Churchill and President Roosevelt at secret conferences without the knowledge of any Parliament, he said. In the Pacific undreamed of concessions were made to Russia under the agreements at Yalta and other places. The spheres of Russian influence in Europe including those in Berlin,, Were not the result of any Labour Goverriment’s appeasement.
