BILLIARDS SEMI-FINALS OF N.Z. CHAMPIONSHIPS

P.A. ■ DUNEDIN, Sept. 3. The semi-finals of the New Zealand amateur billiards championships were played to-day before a good house. Results were:—l W. (Pod) Smith (Canterbury) beat A. Twohill (Greymouth) by 666 to 493. Best breaks were: Smith, 65, 59, 52, 46, 44, 43; average 12.3. Twohill 74, 30, 29, 28, 25, 25; average 9.3. R<. Carrjck (Auckland) beat J. J. Shepherd (Auckland) by 666 to 405. The best breaks were: Carrick, 71. 47, 42, 39., 35, 35; average 13.6. Shepherd, i 51, 47, 31, 23; average 9. The final, 1500 up, will commence to-morrow morning. Should Carrick win the title to-morrow, he will be the first man to in it five times.
