WATAROA NOTES
[Our own Correspondent] . At one time it was a novelty even to transport lambs and sheep by lorry in South Westland, but now fat cattle are going by this means from the district, and even are occupying more vehicles than sheep and lambs. Earlier in the week, several trucks of fat cattle went forward for Addington market. It is better alike foi the stock, the vendor and the buyer that the animals should arrive directly from the paddock. _ Small runs of whitebait ' were earlier in the week ' reported, and intending fishermen have been assembling their apparatus. Mr. Geo. Searle, who has been winning gold at the Saltwater Lagoon, near Hanhari, is about to turn his attention to the whitebait fishing. Mr James Nolan, who has been on a visit to’ Koiterangi, has returned to his home at Wataroa. A visitor at present whom the dairy farmers are pleased to see here is Mr. Sam Roberts, of Hokitika, who carries out engine repairs and other mechanical work. On Wednesday, the local dairy, factory re-opened, and reports indicate a good season. . On Saturday there is a ball being held here and a good gathering is predioted.___ •
