Marital Disputes Attributed To Religious Sect
WELLINGTON, Sept 2 Allegations that the Commonwealth Christian Church, established in Lower Hutt, had attempted to in- . duce a woman who belonged to that church to leave her husband, as he was not a member, were heard in the Supreme Court to-day. A petition for the restitution of conjugal rights was brought by Laurence Bailey against Phyllis Bailey. Dr. O. C. Mazengarb for the petitioner, said his contention was that his wife had left as a result of certain doctrines preached to her by the Christian Commonwealth Church, that she should live separate from hei' husband in view of the fact that he was not a member of that church. The sermons of the minister or the head of the congregation were cyclostyled and sent to members of the congregation. \ “I have a file here,” said Dr. I Mazengarb. Mr Justice Cornish: You' do not expect me to read those. Mr J. H. Oakley, for the respondent, said in the respondent’s answer to the petition were allegations of physical assaults on her. and her children. __
