U.S. Hurricane Misses Coast Areas
• NEW YORK, August 31. . The six-day-old Atlantic hurricane, before which 50 ships of the United States Atlantic Fleet and hundreds of military and naval planes fled yesterday, skimmed past the North Carolina Capes without striking land to-day, as a new tropical disturbance began 1950 miles south-east from Florida. The first storm came within 110 miles of Cape Hatteras before swinging out to sea again. Squally winds up to 40 miles hourly were the strongest felt in the area.
