BEER BOYCOTT AT PORT CHALMERS

Now in Tenth Week P.A. ■ DUNEDIN, Sept. 1. Since mid-day on June 28 'last, t'he members of the Port 'Chalmers Waterside Workers’ Union have iboycotted the hotels at Port Chalmers and an adjacent one at Carey’s Bay. The waterside workers still remain stead'fast. A rumour was current to-day that the Port Chalmers Watersiders were meeting to consider the forming of a Workingmen’s Club. This, however, was officially denied to-night. The “boycotted” hotels have not closed their doors. It is understood that they are receiving financial assistance during the “siege.” The boycott began when Port Chalmers hotels and the one at Carey’s Bay discontinued the practice of “shouting.” Four of the hotels in Dunedin continue to “shout,” for their regurar customers.
