Venue Of Empire Games
AUCKLAND, August 31. To press the claims of Christchurch for the Empire Games of 1950, a deputation from the Christchurch Empire Games ,Promotion Committee will leave for Wellington this evening. The members are Messrs T. H. Langford (chairman), W. J. Cowles and J. A. Stanley (secretary). They will appear before the New Zealand Olympic and Empire Games Association tomorrow evening, when the decision between Christchurch and Auckland is expected to be made. “We claim that Christchurch will have every facility to hold the games,” said Mr Langford yesterday afternoon. Beyond that, he declined to discuss the case to be submitted. It is understood that a majority of the Cabinet favours the allocation of the Games to Christchurch and Government opinion is expected to weigh heavily in the decision. Deputation from Christchurch and Auckland will have complete,, information on the sports facilities available in both pentres and on special provisions necessary for international competition and for handling huge crowds. In these circumstances it is not expected that decision will be delayed,
