Danube Ships May Not Go To The Soviet Bloc
LONDON. August 29. One immediate result of the domineering Russian ta.ctics in excluding Britain, the United States and France from any voice in the control of the Danube is likely to be a final American refusal to give up the large fleet of Danube ships which the U'sited States occupation forces in Austria imnounded after the end of the war. The Russians have several times attempted to obtain control of these ships and have endeavoured to make them a bargaining point in a sett.ement of the Austrian peace treaty. Several months ago a large floatmdock which the Americans had also seized was cut adrift from its moorings and floated into Russian-con-trolled water, where it disappeared. British Foreign Office circles make no secret of the fact that the methods employed by M. Vyshinsky at the Danube Conference are strongly resented and that any retaliatory measures open to the Western Powers will be taken. ..
