REEFTON NOTES
[Our own Corresponcent] Applications granted by the Warden, Mr Maunsell, S.M., in the Warden’s Court were: William James Morris, mineral license 6 acres, Blk. X Reefton S.D.; Susan Ethel Dean, leave to hold residence sites nos. 2054 and 2199; David Gray Campbell, ordinary prospecting license, 50 acres, Blk. XVI Reefton S.D.; Public Trustee (substituted as applicant for Wm. H. Ward), renewal residence site license No. 1708 for a term of 42 years (objected to by Henry Gardiner). A total of 5241 tons of coal were consigned from Reefton in the last two weeks. Production for the week ended August 5 was 2242 tons, and for the previous week, 2999 tons. Mr W. Chandler is in Dunedin for further medical treatment. Mr John Morrison, who was well known in Reefton, died in Christchurch, after a long illness. He is survived by two sons and one daughter, all of Christchurch. At the Magistrate’s Court a fine of £1 with £5 15s costs were imposed on G. A. Farrell for selling milk not conforming to standard. The Magistrate, Mr Maunsell, accepted the evidence of the defence that the milk had been tampered with by some unauthorised person. Within recent months six other tests had been taken and all were satisfactory. A maintenance order against William Alexander Bray in favour of his wife was increased from £1 5s per week to £2 per week. Hilton Birch Palmer was resfused variation of a maintenance order in favour of his wife on the ground that his circumstances had changed. William James Boddy was convicted of disobedience of an interim maintenance order in favour of his wife and child to the extent of £l5; also of disobedience of the final order to the extent of £76. He was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment on the first charge, and three months’ on the second, warrants not to issue so long as he pays current maintenance with 10s per week off arrears. An application for separation, guardianship and maintenance by Evelyn Simms against Cyril Simms was dismissed. The Magistrate granted to Willis R. Hudson £lB7 13s 9d with £lB 4s 6d costs as against Edwin A. Lemon, for damages arising out of a motor-car accident neap Ikamatua when cars driven by the two parties collided. Defendant was non-suited on a counterclaim for £l7 Is 4d. The Magistrate said the accident was due to defendant not keeping a proper look-out and ■not keening to his left-hand side in negotiating.
