Burnett’s Face Women’s N.Z.L.P. Meeting

The August meeting of the Burnett’s Face Women’s Branch of the New Zealand Labour Party was presided over by Mrs Lightbown. It was decided to give all Burnett’s Face school children a party on Saturday, August 28, at 2 p.m. Each member will donate and Mrs Roper’s offer to cater was accepted. Mrs Roper reported on the Paddy Webb Appreciation Fund meeting. Members' were all pleased that a laboratory is to be installed in the Duller Hospital in appreciation of Mr P. Webb. The socials etc., were in the hands of Mesdames Arneson and Madden, and the winners were Mrs L. Russell (two), Mrs Marshall, Mrs McKinnon (two), and Mrs Arneson-. The evening ended with games and supper. Members made a surprise visit to Mrs J. Walsh, who through sickness, has been unable to attend the meetings. Each member took a plate, and a small prize for competitions. The winners were Mesdames Madden (five); J. McKinnin, Lightbrown jnr.. Roper and Mrs Walsh. Supper was served and Mrs Lightbown, on- behalf of the members, presented Mrs Walsh with a pair of slippers. In reply, Mrs Walsh said she could not find words with which to express her gratitude. A most enjoyable evening ended with games.
