Greek Army’s Moves To Surround The Communist Forces
ATHENS, August 8.. A general staff communique said that Greek national forces pursuing guerrillas through the Grammes mountains towards Albania, captured several heights in the Nestorian region. A general staff spokesman announced that the troops had reached the Albanian border at both extremities of the semi-circular Grammes range front. . A nationalist column, in an effort to trap the Communists, deployed from Kaninka along the border, while three other nationalist columns drove north after' crossing the Sarandaporos River. . A firing squad at Lamia executed a woman and eight men to-day. A court-martial sentenced. three othei’ men to death and two more to life imprisonment. Thirty-eight people in Athens have been arrested and charged with being Communists.
