fOur own Correspondent] In the annual report for the meeting of shareholders in the Big Bivei Gold Mines Ltd., to be held at Reefton on August 23, the Directors state that, there has been no improvement in the simply of laboui for quartz mining. _ They, therefore, consider that it is impossible to attempt to resume mining operations at the present time. When suitable labour becomes available, Directors will place the question of the resumption of operations before the shareholders at a special general meeting to be called for that purpose. In the mean time, every effort is being made to' maintain the property in a good safe condition. The Company’s officials have again acted without salary during the past year, and the thanks of the Directors are extended to them for this service. All the Directors retire from office and being eligible, offer themselves for re-election. The Company's auditor, Mr W. B. Auld, retires, and is not seeking re-election through ill-health, and the sympathy of the Company is extended to him. Mr M. J. Fogarty, A.P.A.N.Z., has been nominated for the position of auditor.

Osborne beat L. E. Morgan; J. Cunningham beat D. Cartwright. The second round will be played on Sunday, August 15, and the draw is:—J. W. Osborne v. Rev. Father Kirby; J. Cunningham v. winner of K. Archer v. W. Bissett. The best scores in the stroke match were: A. Robertson 95-2'9-66; W. C. Pennington 83-17-66; E. Dobson 89-19-70; J. Cutbush 91-19-72; G. Crossman 95-22-73; J. Weir 95-21-74; J. W. Osborne 99-24-75; L. Woods 98-23-75; and J. Cunningham 91-23-68. W. Hannah and D. J. Knapp have been declared the winners of the C grade fourball competition. In a challenge match for the Cunningham Cup, E. Dobson beat Rev. Father Fletcher. On Sunday, the club will play an inter-club match with the Grevmouth club at the Kaiata links. Forty-two players will make the trip. Blackwater Mines last year had a loss of £14,774 sterling, after payment of £4512 sterling in New Zealand gold duty. The annual meeting takes place in London at the end of this month.
