EIRE’S POSITION DEFINED BY PREMIER
(Rec 6.30 p.m.) LONDON, Aug 6. Defining Eire’s constitutional position in relation to the British Commonwealth, the Prime Minister, rar Costello, in the Dail, yesterday, said their association with the Commonwealth was a free association, and by virtue of its very freedom could be terminated by unilateral action. The question whether Eire was a Republic was clearly one of nomenclature. which he was not prepai ed to discuss. ~ Eire was, by its constitution, a Sovereign State, in which all powers of Government were derived, unci-i God, from the people. TRADE AGREEMENT DUBLIN, August 5 The Prime Minister. Mr' Costello, submitting the Anglo-Irish trade agreement in the Dail said that Eir-_ wanted to send all she could to Britain Eire was deeply interested in Commonwealth preference and want; ed to make sure that international obligations did not adversely affect the preferences which existed.
