FATAL ROAD ACCIDENTS

WELLINGTON, Aug b. Eighteen people lost their lives in traffic accidents during July, bringl- - the toal road deaths for 1948 to 122, said the Minister of Transport, Mr F. Hackett) at Wellington to-day. July was a bad month for pedestrians, continued the Minister. Of the 18 neople killed 11 were pedestrians. Thirteen of the total fatalities for the month occurred during the hours of darkness. “The winter months are danger months, for pedestrians and cyclists.” said Mr Hackett. “When visibility is restricted at night they should take special care to ensure that they may easily be seen by approacring traffic.”
