Star Club's Jubilee Procession
Surpassing any function of its type for many years and showing me friendly spirit existing between sports uuaies m general, the White Star Golden Jubilee procession on Saturday provided a grand spectacle to a large and appreciative crowd. Starting irom ciie ciuo’s old headquarters at the corner oi Fanblanque and Palmerston Streets the procession was headed by the veteran, Mr Tom Murphy carrying the new oanner, a beautitul piece or work executed by the Sisters or Mercy. Then rollowed the Westport Band. An attractive Star float depicted tne rugby and social activities or the ciud witn beautifully attired debutantes and neatly dressed footballers. ' The players of tne: last ou years passed in groups representing each decade. More iloats followed the and Buller representative teams. Tne Granity band had tne beautiful floats recently used at their band celebrations. Basketball teams, all in uniforms followed. Members of the motor cycle club and several members of the Light Horsemen’s Club took part. All floats were worthy of mention. The small girl (Mary Anderson) as Jack-in-the-box on top of a decorated car, the Old Boy’s, as the youngest club with a pram and “infant” with out-size in “dummies”; two small children , the son and daughter of Joe Lambert as cinoline lady and footballers on tricycles were particulary praised. Messrs J. Kilkenny and A. M. Lockey are to be congratulated on their organising of a really good parade.
