Late Buller News Price Tribunal Cases

Mr T. E. Maunsell S.M. in the Magistrate’s Court when hearing charges against Wicks Drapery Stores, Ltd., and Basil palefield Ltd., for exceeding prices, said that tnere was obviously no intent behind the breaches and imposed only nominal Pe Therewas only one charge against Wicks Drapery Stores Ltd., and iwas explained by Mr M. B. Sculb that the percentages of mark up above cost permitted by Tribunal order for the goods concerned giving rise to the prosecution was no more than a fractional one—due in one case to the fact that the price labels for two garments had been inadvertently exchanged and in the other to the fact that the defendant had actually not yet received the amending order. Mr Scully said mat there could be no question of a deliberate attempt to evade the orders end emphasised the fractional nature of the increases in each case.. Inis view was accepted by the Magistrate.
