AUSTRALIANS’ STRONG START AGAINST SUSSEX

Lindwall’s Great Bowling (Rec. 9.0) LONDON, June 5. Lindwall made another Australian two-day victory possible when he mesmerised the Sussex batsmen with his speed and swerve and clean bowled four of them. He finished the day with the figures of 19.4 overs, two maidens, 34 runs, six wickets. Loxton also made the ball move in the air, but a recurrence of an injury to the upper thigh prevented his return to the field after lunch. Morris marked each milestone of the innings with his individual brilliance. He brought up the fifty, the hundred and the 200 with vigorous hooks to the boundary. He hit 21 fours. He is now right back to form and his 152 not out was made in a little over even time. Bradman's 43 not out had its uncertain moments. Australians’ Easy Win Over Hampshire

LONDON, June. 4. Australia beat Hampshire by eight wickets, mainly because of lan Johnson’s brilliant 74, which ‘included three sixes. Johnson had gone in when Australia were one for nil, and needed 182 on a tricky, soft pitch in order to win. The wicket was easier than it was yesterday, but it was still difficult, and Hampshire, scenting the possibility of inflicting the first defeat on the Australians, went for runs from the start of play to-day. Miller and W. Johnston, however, were in great bowling form, and the county were bundled out in two hours before lunch for 103, leaving Australia 182 to get to win in just under three hours. Brown and lan Johnson mastered the tricks of the pitch at its worst stage, and latex’ took toll of the bowling when the pitch improved. Johnson made his 74 in 76 minutes and hit seven fours in addition to his three sixes. Australia won with 45 minutes to spare. Scores * - HAMPSHIRE, Ist. Innings .... 195 HAMPSHIRE—2nd.
