KIWIS JUST HOLD ON FOR POINT WIN AT BRISBANE

Clarke’s Outstanding Goal-kicking (Rec. 5.30) BRISBANE, June 6. The New Zealand Rugby League team turned in another strong second half performance to-day to beat Queensland by 11 to 10 after being down 8-2 at half-time. Warwick Clarke was again a big factor in the win, kicking foui’ goals. New Zealand had only two penalties in the second half, and Clarke kicked goals on both occasions. The centres, Wiles and Robertson again starred, Robertson making seme grand runs from defensive positions to go within an ace of scoring. The game was fast’and very tough. Both forward packs rucked hard with a lot of trouble always in the rucks and scrums. Warnings again were prevalent. BROSNAN WARNED The Australian test forward, Brosnan, was warned several times. Clarke’s four goals and his sound general play, atoned for a bad error which cost New Zealand a try 20 seconds after the start. Clarke fumbled in goal and Hall, the Queensland second row player dived on the ball. A big factor in Queensland holding the Kiwis so close was the winning of the ball in the scrums, Benton beating Smith by 31 to 21. The match was seen by 20,000, who booed a decision which resulted in the New Zealand win. . The Kiwis stood un in the rucks. One bad breach was allowed to go by Referee Chambers, who then penalised Horrigan for interference. Clarke kicked a grand goal. The Kiwis held on to their 11-10 lead for the remaining 20 minutes. Wiles and Robertson again were easily the outstanding players for New Zealand, with Clarke’s kicking a real match-winning factor, as Queensland scored two tries to one. Brosnan was too strong for the Kiwi forwards, but the home pack was outplayed generally. Scores were: New Zealand 11. (a try by Wiles and four goals by Clarke); Queensland 10 (two tries by Hall and two goals by O’Connor).
