JAPAN’S FUTURE MERCHANT MARINE
LONDON, June 3
Replying to a question in the House of Commons on the current Anglo-American consultations about the future of the Japanese mercantile marine, the Foreign Undersecretary, Mr C. P. Mayhew, said that as an island nation Japan must have a reasonable number of merchantmen.
Britain, he added was advocating that the restriction of Japan’s mercantile marine should be confined to security requirements.
