HOCKEY Nelson,Teams to Visit Greymouth Next Week
At a meeting of the West Coast Hockey Association on Thursday, arrangements for the forthcoming visit of the Waimai Club (Nelson) to the West Coast on Saturday next were finalised. It was reported that two senior teams, a junior men’s team, and a women’s team would be making the trip, and that the match between the senior team and the West Coast representative men’s team would be for the Kennedy Shield. The women’s teams will play for the Coffey Rose Bowl. It was decided to accept the Buller Association’s suggestion oi July 17 for the Mawbera Cup at Westpore, and to suggest July 31 as the date for the return match at Greymouth. AUSTRALIAN TOUR Reporting on the proposed visit of an Australian hockey team, the secretary, Mr Coffey, said the team would travel to Westport on Tuesday, August 10, play there on Wednesday, August 11, and proceed to Greymouth on the morning of August 12. The match against West Coast would be played that afternoon, and the Australians would leave on that evening’s rail-car for Christchurch, to play on the Saturday. ~ , a It was tentatively decided to arrange a women’s representative fixture between West Coast and Buller as a curtain-raiser to the West CoastAustralia match. The Canterbury Association suggested that the Quatre Bras finals should be the same as for last season. The draw for the elimination matches in this series was set out as follows: West Coast v. Buller; South Canterbury v. Ashburton and Kaikoura a bye*. The final will be played at Christchurch on a date to be arranged. Pacific Club team: Messenger.
