At yesterday’s meeting of the Grey County Council, the recent fire at Taramakau road bridge was recalled and the prompt action of Kumara Fire Brigade, which, the engineer, Mr H. Higgins, said undoubtedly saved the bridge from serious damage, or destruction, with resultant interruption of road transport and isolation of that area of the country served bv the bridge. The council decided that the efforts of Kumara Fire Brigade warranted more than a letter of thanks. A grant of £lO was made. Mass will be celebrated on next Sunday, June 6, at Paroa, 8 a.m. and at Ruru 10.15 a.m.—Advt. Two suspected cases of poliomyelitis, admitted to Wellington Hospital yesterday, were diagnosed later as negative.' A suspected case already’in hos was also diagnosed as negative. —P.A.
