Waiuta rainfall for May was as follows: No. of rainy days: 16; maximum fall: 1.52 inches (on May 30); total for May: 7.82 inches. Total number of rainy days up to May 31: 76; total rainfall up to May 31: 28.41 inches. During May 13661 tons of coal was consigned from Fjeefton. The final week’s output was 2834 tons, an increase on the previous week’s figure. In May 1947, the coal consignments totalled 13,917 tons. Wet weather in the last two weeks has caused a drop in production at open-cast mines.
