U.S. War Preparedness in Munitions Field is Called For

(Rec. 9.0). WASHINGTON, May 31. The U.S. Armed Forces Munitions Board has to-day called on private industry to begin making plans for quick mobilisation in the event of war. The Board has also issued a fortysix page guide to industry, but it has emphasised that its action should not be taken to imply that war is expected in the near future. The main points in the “Guide” are as follows: — (1) Each plant should prepare to make approximately the same type of items as it produced in January, 1944. (2) Production should be planned at the same rate as in that month, or. if more appropriately, at a rate equal to the peak output during the Second World War.
