Fake Pretences Earn Jail Term

INVERCARGILL, June 1. . “Not only a bird of nassaae, but a bird of prey”. said Mr Abernethy, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court after a story had been told how Edward Basil Thomas Finn, of no fixed occupation, haH issued valueless cheques to four publicans in Southland, and obtained about £5O in cash- “I am afraid you are a plausible rogue”, said the Magistrate. Finn pleaded guilty to. five charges of obtaining money by* false pretences. He was sentenced to six weeks’ imprisonment on each charge, the sentences to be cumulative, totalling over seven months.
