Rugby Football

Because of unfavourable , weather, only one rugby match was played in the Buller district at the week-end. Ngakawau seniors, yet to win a game this season, played Rovers, the only unbeaten side in the championship competition, to a draw. Because of the heavy rain during the week, the Granity recreation ground was unfit for the game'. In spite of Rovers turning out a really strong team, Ngakawau held them to a draw, 3-3, and were unlucky not to win. Neither line was crossed—W. Dickson kicked a penalty goal for Ngakawau, and A. Kerr kicked one for Rovers. At Saturday’s meeting, the Buller Rugby Union management committee agreed to the rep hockey match, Buller v. New South Wales, being played on August 11 at Victoria Square, prior to the All Black trial match. •. . , e I Mr J. Morgan was appointed ref- > eree next Saturday for the Buller v. Canterbury match; Mr A.. Reid referee for the Stars v. Tech, Phillips Cup final on Saturday; and Mr A. B. Prescott, for the Stars v. Old Boys junior match on June 7. It was decided that Stars and Old Boys juniors play a curtain raiser to the Buller v. Nelson' game on the King’s Birthday. It was reported that the South Island selector, Mr W. Reid, would be nresent at the interprovincial match on Saturday. It was resolved that V. K. Freeman be reclassified from Rover senior to Rover juniors, and that IVI. McGill be added ’to the Ngakawau junior team. The committee also decided that the Havelock club be advised that, a match will be arranged for their junior team at Westport on July 24, but, at the moment, no guarantee can be given them that they will be granted the curtain-raiser to the Shield match.

The Municipal Band is to be requested to render selections on Victoria Square ror the Buller v. Canterbury and Buller v. Nelson rep. matches. The following appointments were made:— Manager of Buller teams to play Canterbury and Nelson Mr H. Taylor managers for Canterbury and Nelson Messrs W. A.' Craddock and J. P. McEnaney, respectively.
