£2500 RAISED IN GREYMOUTH FOR CHILDREN

Although the United Nations’ appeal is being extended until the middle of the present month, the Greymouth committee, last evening., met and decided to conclude its campaign. Donations, however, may continue to be forwarded and will be acknowledged by the local treasurer. Mr F. H. Denton. Greymouth, up to last evening, had subscribed a little less than £2500. The district target, set by the committee was £5OOO. Last night it was anticipated that when the final count was made, there would be nearly £3OOO in the account to be forwarded to Wellington. It was stated that the committee will continue to function in view of the extension of time which was for the purpose of enabling persons who had not made their donations, to do so, and of collecting country donations. The Mayor, Mr F. F. Boustridge, expressed thanks to all who nad helped to make the Greymouth campaign a success. He was pleased with the result of the campaign and thought that Greymouth would be highly placed among the Dominion s towns. He thanked, especailly, the ladies who had willingly assisted m the collecting, and the district treasurer, Mr Denton. Donations received up to Fridaytotalled £1876 15s Bd, including £1704 19s lOd previously acknowledged. BRUNNER COMMITTEE APPEAL REACHES £468 The Mayor ofßrunner, Mr Gutberlet, wishes to' express his thanks to all who contributed so generously to the Brunner Committee’s effort for the United Nations Appeal Foi- Children. Special mention, he states, must be made of the generous response by the Grey Valley Colleries Ltd., Employees Industrial Union of Workers, whose contribution of one days’ earnings amounted to £341 19s 9d, a magnificent and outstanding contribution.
