REEFTON NOTES
[Our Own Correspondent]. REEFTON, April 19.
The monthly meeting of the Labour Party was held on Sunday evening, when there was a record attendance. Some most interesting discussions took olace. A report from the delegates to the Buller L.R.C. meeting which was held at Westport recently was very clearly given. The funeral of the late Mrs Alice Archer left St. Stephen’s Church on Sunday for the Suburban Cemetery. The Rev. Mr Machell conducted the services, and the funeral was largely attended. Many will always remember Mrs Archer when at 81 years of age she walked 34 miles to the Mawheraiti sawmill and back again with four cans of milk for the children which she said they needed.
Owing to the death of the mother of the custodian of the Workingmen’s Club, the Club will close on Tuesday morning. Members of the Club will act as pall-bearers. Miss M. Anderson, M.L.C., and Mrs K. O’Brien, of Greymouth, visited Reefton for the opening of the Miners’ Hostel. Mr T. Blackadder, who has been a patient in the Grey River Hospital, has returned home much improved in health.
The establishment of a lime works may follow the granting to Mr D. F. O’Donnell. Cronadun, of a provisional licence over about 20 acres of Block II in the Reefton Survey District for the purpose of winning limestone. The licence was granted last Wednesday by the Nelson Land Board.
