Costly Lease of House de Luxe
After standing empty through the war, Caotain Cunningham-Reid’s house in Upper Brook Street, London, has been sold. It has been bought bought by the Canadian Government as the home of the High Commissioner. The price is about £25,000 for the 36-year lease. Captain Cunningham-Reid—form-er M.P. for Marylcbone—used to live in the house with his first wife, the former Miss Ruth Mary Ashley, now Ladv Delamere. Their marriage was dissolved in 1940. He received, the house as part of the financial settlement. r , Lady Delamere is Lady Mount batten’s sister. Between them they inherited £6,000,000 from their grandfather, Sir Ernest Cassel. No. 12 Upper Brook Street is no ordinary house. It has its own squasn court ’(with an adjustable roof), which can be converted into a cinema. Here Cunningham-Reid showed the film he made on his round-the-world honeymoon. The house also has its own telephone exchange, lifts to all four floors, and a fountain in the walled uarden. There are wall safes for jewels, and invisible ray burglar alarms art? rr.-firealed in the walls.
