CASE AGAINST BANKING BILL ENDS
(Ren?. 7.30) SYDNEY, April 15. The Full High Court to-day reserved judgment on the challenge by the private banks against the Commonwealth Government legislation to nationalise banking.
The hearing, which lasted 39 days, was the longest in the history of the Australian High Court. It excited great interest, even on the last day, when crowds were turned away. Inside the Court 27 barristers, including 14 King’s Counsellors, filled the bar table and three extra benches.
The Federal Attorney-General, Dr H. V. Evatt, closed the case of the Commonwealth shortly before noon The Chief Justice, Sir John Lathem, then announced that the judges would consider their decision, and that the Court would adjourn until Monday. ■ .-
