DEEP-SEA RESEARCH AUCKLAND. April 15. After two months of deep-sea research in northern New Zealand waters, the last of the Yale-New Zealand game fishing- expedition will leave Auckland this afternoon on the freighter Waiana for Wellington. Their modern launch. Manana 111, was loaded this morning, and will be transhipped in Wellington to the Highland .Prince for New York. The Manana will probably he off-loaded in eastern America and sailed to her home port. Miami. Seventeen other members cf the expedition flew back to America recently. WELLINGTON. April 15.

The establishment of a flving-boat service between Wellington and Auckland as a suitable alternative, while the Rongotai scheme is being carried out. was advocated bv the Deputy-Mayor of Wellington, Mr R. L. McAlister, in an address last night. “Rongotai will not. be in use .in six or 12 months—it will be a matter of years”, said Mr McAlister. “What is being done to provide a suitable alternative? Nothing. At least a flyinghoat service could bo provided between Auckland and Evans Bay. It could bo provided at a cost of about £3OOO. The necessary boats could be obtained. Even if thev are worn out by the time Rongotai is ready, we would have had something to tide us over”. WELLINGTON, April 15. A live bomb 20 inches in length was removed from long grass growing between the western Hutt road and the railway line yesterday bv army personnel, and taken to Fort Dorset. The bomb was discovered by a boy, William Wilson, on Monday afternoon. Yesterday he notified the police, who, in turn, communicated with the army authorities at Tren--Iham, who removed the bomb to Fort Dorset for examination. There was no indication as to how long the bomb had been there, or how it came to bo there. It was not known that the bomb was live until army personnel had ’ inspected it.
