RADIO HOURS BEING CUT FROM MONDAY

Due to Shortage of Electricity P.A. WELLINGTON, April 14 Commencing on Monday next, 19th April, all of the broadcasting stations will close down for three onehour periods each week day. At present the stations are off the an from 11.30 a.m. to. 12 noon, and from 5.30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Until further notice the stations will be closed clown from 8.10 a.m. to 9 a.m.;’from 11 a.m. to 12 noon; and from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Mondays to Fridays, inclusive, each week. In announcing this to-day in a joint statement, the Minister of Broadcasting, Hon. F. Jones, and the Minister of Hydro Electricity, Hon. R. Semple, said that it was the practice of the Government to close down broadcasting stations for several hours each day when povyer rationing was in force. Very little power was used in the actual transmission services, but the combined saving in power resulting from the receiving sets ’being switched off was considerable.
