ATHLETICS Empire Games for New Zealand

Unanimous support for a proposal that Christchurch should be the venue of the Empire Games in 1950, Canterbury’s centennary year, was given by the conference of South Island Members of Parliament, and the executives of the South Island Local Bodies’ Association and the South Island Publicity Association at Dunedin. ~ Mr E. H. Andrews (who presided) explained that it had been generally agreed that conditions were so unsettled that the proposed exhibition should be held over, but there was no doubt that Christchurch could hold the Empire Games, the only thing lacking being a regulation swimming pool. The motion was seconded by the Leader of the Opposition (Mr S. G. Holland, who said that there was no obstacle that could not be overcome
