TRIESTE PROPOSAL OPPOSED BY THE SOVIET
(Rec. 9.50) LONDON. April 14 Moscow radio announced that Russia has. in a note delivered to the British Foreign Office yesterday rejected the joint British-American-French proposals to return Trieste to Italy. Russia did so because it ‘'violated, elementary principles of democracy.” The radio added that similar notes have been sent to - the United States and to France. LATER. . The Russian rejection of the Bri-tish-American-French proposal for a conference to consider returning Trieste to Italy was stated in Notes delivered simultaneously in London. Washington and Paris The Notes point out tnar the Italian Peace Treaty was prepared by the Foreign Ministers’ Council, and later ratified by twenty-one nations attending the Paris Peace Conference. It says: “The proposal to revise the treaty by means of correspondence, or by convening private conferences, is regarded by the Soviet Government .is unacceptable, and as violating elementary principles of democracy’ 1 .
