Sentences for Breaking and Entering
P.A WELLINGTON. April 13. “’This type of offence is much too prevalent and young men who engage in it can expect to go to gaol,” said Mr. Justice Smith in the Supreme Court to-day in sentencing Norman Thomas Bardsley, aged 24, a labourer. to three months’ hard labour for shop-breaking and theft, the sentence to be concurrent with a term of one month’s imprisonment which Bardsley is at present serving. Jack Pene, aged 25, a labourer, was sentenced to three months’ hard labour for house-breaking and theft. His Honour said Pene escaped from prison on March 13 and had committed further offences while he was at liberty. The sentence would be cumulative on his current sentence of nine months’ imprisonment, which would be followed by 18 months’ reformative detention.
