LEAGUE FOOTBALL WEST COAST COMMITTEE MEETING
Mr B. F. Connors presided at the weekly meeting of the West ■ Coast Rugby League Management Committee last evening, also present being Messrs T. F. McKenzie t secretary), J. Oakley, L. P. Coffey, W. Meates,.N. Messenger, R. Armstrong, B. Ramsay and J. Kidd. Cobden Club were granted the use of Victoria Park as their training centre, as was the Marist Club. Marist Club were also granted the use of Wingham Park as its home ground. Marist Club forwarded a nomination for a third grade team, this being accepted. , . It was decided to submit three nominations for the office of releree for the West Coast-Canterbury trial matches to the Canterbury Centre and to ask the Canterbury Centre likewise to submit three nominations to this centre, the latter finally making the selection. . Two transfers of club members were approved and also two nominations of club members. Mr McKenzie commenting on the number of schoolboys playing this year, said that he was very pleased at the number who weighed in last Saturday, the total being well over 200. Mr Messenger said that at present there were sixteen schoolboy teams, and indications were that this number might increase to about twenty. He though that this year there would be an all time record. He paid tribute to the Referees’ Association for having members present at the games to see that the refereeing was up to standard. Mr Kidd was elected as delegate to the annual meeting of the New Zealand Rugby League at Auckland on May 6. It was announced that the selection of the team for the trial match. Canterbury v. West Coast to be played at Victoria Park on Saturday, April 24, would be made on Sunday. It was decided that a senior reserve representative team play a West Coast team as a curtain-raiser to t.lie trial match and that the trial match team assemble at Victoria Park at. 7 o’clock on Tuesday and Thursday nights next week for training, coaches appointed being Messrs J. Dodds and N. Griffiths.
